laima ceramics

Contemporary Latvian ceramics shaped by slow craft, material exploration, and quiet beauty.

Laima Ceramics is a contemporary Latvian ceramics studio and design brand creating handcrafted porcelain and stoneware tableware, design objects, and creative learning experiences. Founded in 2013 by designer-maker Laima Piliņa, the studio grew from her Contemporary Craft training in the United Kingdom and apprenticeship with a master potter in Latvia.

Based in the countryside near Rundāle, in Latvia’s Bauska region, Laima Ceramics works at the intersection of craft, culture, and contemporary design. Each piece reflects a sensitivity to material, function, and everyday ritual — objects made not only to be seen, but to be lived with, used, and loved over time.

The studio’s work has reached homes, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and design partners internationally, while its workshops and residency-style courses invite people into a slower relationship with clay, process, and place.

SELECTED FOR STUDY NO.01

REMAINING THROUGH FIRE

Study No.01 — Remaining explores what is left behind by water, earth, and fire. Ash was selected for its dark exterior and  — a contrast that recalls cooled stone, volcanic residue, and the quiet aftermath of heat.

Within the study, Ash represents the final trace: what remains after burning, release, and transformation. Its surface feels grounded and protective, while its interior holds a softer, quieter light.

MATERIAL + PROCESS

Laima Ceramics works with porcelain, stoneware, and high-fired glazes through a practice rooted in mindful making and material sensitivity. Their objects are made by hand on the pottery wheel or through careful hand-forming, allowing each vessel to hold subtle variation in tone, surface, and presence.

Ash carries this material language through contrast: a dark matte surface embraced by their signature ash-like crater lava glaze band. The result is a vessel that feels elemental, intimate, and enduring.

HANDMADE VARIATION

Each piece may vary slightly in tone, surface, scale, and finish. These differences are not defects. They are evidence of the hand, the material, and the firing process.
